JOB DESCRIPTIONS

USE YOUR GIFTS JOB DESCRIPTIONS

When you take the gift test, you’ll receive multiple ideas about areas you might be able to use your unique gifts. Below are the 21 areas and a brief description of each. Take a look and see if anything sounds interesting, even if it didn’t show up on your gift test. Once you have an idea of what you’d like to do, fill out the application. Feel free to talk to a leader if you have any questions.

If you’re thinking about going into ministry someday, or you just want to help behind the scenes in all sorts of ways, this might be the role for you. Every week, there are so many details that have to be taken care of. There’s planning games, creating images for the screen, doing follow-up, mailing postcards, buying supplies, printing, cutting, stapling—in ministry, there’s always something that needs to be done. If you think you’d like to help with some of those, or you just want to learn what it’s like to be in ministry, we’d love for you to apply.

Food (and good coffee) is an important part of any get-together—including the get-togethers we create here at United. If you love food, you want to be a barista, or you just like making people happy, you might want to apply to join our cafe team
There are so many ways to serve in children’s ministry! Whether you’re rocking babies to sleep, helping kids sign in, acting, leading the hand motions to a song, passing out snacks, or teaching a class, serving in children’s ministry is really fun. If you like helping, working with kids, or performing on stage, you might want to check out children’s ministry.
You probably know a lot about a lot of things, but there’s one topic where you’re definitely an expert: being a teenager. We need to learn from you! If you’re interested, we would love for you to serve as a consultant—someone we can call (or text) when we need feedback or have a question about what teenagers are really going through. Plus, we’d love to invite you to be a part of some of our meetings so you can share your insights, ideas, and experiences. If that sounds fun, we’d love for you to apply and let us know!
There are so many ways for you to serve here at youth and at your church—ways we probably haven’t even thought about. So if none of these ideas feel quite right to you, we’d love for you to pitch your own unique volunteer role. Tell us what you love, what you’re good at doing, and how you hope to use those things to serve others here or at your church. The possibilities are endless, so dream big! God gave you your unique set of skills, ideas, and interests for a reason. We’d love to help you use them to give back to God and others.
Sometimes a little taste of the performing arts are exactly what our events or services need. If you love to act or dance, you might want to apply!
You know all of those events that happen around here? They don’t just happen! Every event takes a team of people, tons of creativity, and lots of problem-solving. If you like to plan things or come up with creative ideas for events, you might want to join our event planning team.
We design a lot of stuff. Whether it’s a flyer, graphics for our messages, or something we’re posting on social media, we’re always looking for talented people who know how to create great digital images. If you’ve got a good eye for design and access, you might want to apply to be a graphic designer.
Everyone who walks through the doors of United or your home church deserves to be greeted with kindness. That’s where our greeters come in! If you like the idea of making someone feel welcome (especially first-time visitors), you might want to apply to be a greeter.
A host or emcee is someone who can get a room hyped up or lead a game or fun activity. If you love to have fun, entertain people, and be in front of a group, you might want to apply to be a host or emcee.
Every week, we think about what our physical spaces look like. Whether it’s our building on a regular week of ministry, a cool new stage design to complement a new series, or some fun decorations for a special event, we need people who have a great eye for interior design. If that’s you, we’d love for you to apply!
Having a great experience at church begins in the parking lot. Our parking lot team makes sure people arrive at our services and special events safely and with a smile. If that sounds like something you could do, you might want to apply!
We’re always looking for new images or videos of our ministry to post online or use in the things we design for our ministry. If you’ve got a good eye, and have access to a camera (even if it’s just your phone), or maybe you just love editing photos and videos that other people have taken, you might want to apply to be one of our new photographers or videographers!
No church service or special event would happen without our production team thinking about things like lights, sound, videos, and slides. If you’re interested in production, or you just want to serve somewhere behind the scenes, you might want to become a member of the production team.
With so much happening at youth or at your home church all the time, we usually need a few extra sets of hands to help set things up before a service or event, or tear things down afterward. Whenever you’re able to come a little early or stay a little late, we’d love your help!
A small group leader is a volunteer who leads conversations with a small group of kids or younger students. But a small group leader does more than just lead a conversation—a small group leader builds lasting relationships with the kids they’re leading, connects regularly with the parents of those kids, and models a growing faith in Jesus for them. If you can serve every week, you love Jesus, and you love working with people, you might want to be a small group leader.
You know the importance of staying connected with your friends and family online. So do we! But we could use your help. If you enjoy using social media, you have a good understanding of a certain app or platform or two, and you like figuring out how to engage people online, you might want to apply to be one of our social media managers.
A speaker is someone who occasionally reads, teaches, or speaks to the group. If you’ve ever seen someone give a sermon, share a story, read Scripture, or give the announcements and thought, “Hmm, I think I could do that!” then you might want to apply to be a speaker!
A buddy is a volunteer who spends the service hanging out with a kid or student who has special needs. If you love helping people and making new friends, you might want to serve as someone’s buddy.
When a new person shows up at youth for the first time, we wish we could do more to help them feel loved. If you join the welcome committee, you might help us follow up with first-time visitors by writing them a quick note, sending them something in the mail, or helping us create special gifts just for them. If you like making people feel noticed and helping behind the scenes, you might want to apply!
At United, we desire to have our own worship team. And we’re sure your home church would love to have more vocalists and musicians. If you’ve got some musical ability (and you’d like to develop your talents a little more), you might want to apply to be on the worship team.

USE YOUR GIFTS

HEY STUDENTS!

We want to help you use your gifts by serving others here and at your home church. There are so many ways for you to get involved, but instead of telling you how to volunteer, we want you to be a little creative. Our goal is to help you find a way to serve others that lines up with the things you love and are already good at doing. Here’s the idea . . .

• TAKE THE QUIZ

We set up a quiz to help you figure out some ways you might want to serve. You’ll get up to 20 ideas for ways you can volunteer here and at your home church. Take the quiz online at USEYOUR.GIFTS to get started.

• TELL US YOUR RESULTS

When you’re done with the quiz, screen shot (or print to pdf) your results and show them to your leader. They’ll talk to you about which ideas you like best and help you come up with a plan to get involved.

• FILL OUT AN APPLICATION

When you think you know how you might want to serve, fill out a volunteer application below! After you apply, someone from youth will be in touch with you about your next steps.

And that’s it! Yes! We can’t wait to add you to our volunteer team!
